Start With The Existing System
Record the complete model, capacity, cabinet dimensions and the building’s equipment requirements. A direct replacement chassis is a different project from a full retrofit with a new blower assembly, controls or modified connections. Brand and square footage alone are not enough to determine an installed price.
Separate Equipment From Installation
Ask the proposal to identify the exact model and what the installation includes: removal of the old unit, delivery, connection work, controls, drainage, start-up checks and disposal. If access, protective measures or building coordination create additional work, that should be clear before approval. Clarify taxes and any excluded work when comparing proposals.
Understand What Can Change The Quote
Cabinet condition, electrical requirements, the location and condition of hoses or valves, thermostat compatibility and available access can change the scope. A building may also have requirements for shutdowns, water isolation, contractor access or work hours. Custom retrofit equipment can have different supply timelines from a stocked replacement chassis.
Compare Repair And Replacement On The Same Facts
A repair assessment should identify the present fault and what remains uncertain about the rest of the system. Compare the repair scope, equipment condition, service history, available parts and the replacement scope. Age is useful context, but it does not diagnose the current problem or establish that replacement will fix a building-side issue.
Ask For The Current Warranty And Lead Time
Confirm what the equipment warranty covers, whether labour is included, which exclusions apply and who handles future service. Request the expected supply and installation timeline for the exact model. Published legacy product pages can describe older models, pricing or warranty terms, so use a current written proposal for your decision.
Prepare For A Meaningful Estimate
Provide the building address, suite number, readable model-label and installation photos, the current symptoms and any prior reports. HTS can use those details to identify the next assessment step. An installed quote follows the system and site review; a generic online number cannot capture every condo installation.
