The OMEGA low-pressure safety switch protects the heat pump when refrigerant pressure is outside its permitted range. A warning does not identify the failed component on its own. Record the model, operating mode and fault pattern, then arrange condo heat pump diagnosis if it persists.
Resetting Condo Heat Pumps May Not Be A Good Idea
Building-loop conditions may contribute to a lockout. A reset does not correct the underlying cause. Follow the equipment manual and arrange a diagnosis if the warning returns; avoid repeated resets.
Here are 5 possible reasons why the low-pressure switch (LPS) light on your heat pump may start blinking red including:
1. Refrigerant Leak
If the heat pump is low on refrigerant, the LPS may act to prevent the system operating without inadequate refrigerant to transfer heat effectively.
2. Compressor Malfunction:
If the compressor works inefficiently due to mechanical issues then there is a drop in pressure across the refrigerant circuit. As a result, it can trigger LPS to shut down the system. In this case, you need to replace your chassis compressor to resolve this issue.
3. Restricted Air Flow
On heating mode, Dirty or restricted air filter can restrict the airflow and cause the system refrigerant pressure to drop. As a result, LPS gets activated. Please also keep that in mind, no furniture or sofa should block the front access panel.
4. Faulty Low-Pressure Switch (LPS)
In some cases, the LPS itself may be malfunctioning or improperly wired causing it o activate even when the pressure switch is normal.
5. Building Water Pressure
Water Source Heat Pumps rely heavily on building water pressure & temperature to operate properly. If the building water pressure or temperature does not follow standard heat pump requirements then you may experience sudden shutdowns & red LPS flashing on the control boards. Before addressing this problem with your condo management, you need to have a qualified condo HVAC specialist provide you with a formal report in order to inform your property manager.
