A red low-pressure switch (LPS) light on a condo heat pump circuit board or control panel typically indicates that the system is experiencing low refrigerant pressure. The LPS is a safety pressure switch that is designed to shut off the heat pump if the refrigerant pressure in the system becomes too low. When the light is illuminated, it typically means that there is a problem with the system that needs to be addressed. 1. Refrigerant Leak
If the heat pump is low on refrigerant, the LPS, the LPS may act to prevent the system from operating without enough refrigerant to transfer heat effectively.
2. Compressor Malfunction:
If the compressor works inefficiently due to mechanical issues then there is a drop in pressure across the refrigerant circuit. As a result, it can trigger LPS to shut down the system. In this case, you need to replace your chassis compressor to resolve this issue.
3. Restricted Air Flow
If the air filter on the heat pump is currently too dirty or too thick, it can restrict the airflow and cause the system refrigerant pressure to drop. As a result, LPS gets activated. Please also keep that in mind, no furniture or sofa should block the front access panel.
